I do not know where to begin with in the first place to write a review about this book. Despite the fact that this book has been written by a 14 year old girl, the book exhibits sheer brilliance when it comes to approaching the life - be it with education or otherwise.

What did I like the most in this book?

There are many in fact. I liked the way the book was written. The flow was so good that in spite of reading the life of a small girl, you feel like getting information which is so rich that can guide you through. Please note that the author is not trying to portray herself as a guru or something but being a motivational speaker herself at this young age, the book clearly reflects her matured mindset.

Of course, you cannot expect a person who is just 14 to write like a 40+ but the writings almost matches that age group which is a surprising factor to me. Girls at this age, most of the time, end up talking about gossips or fashion or style but I liked the approach adopted by the author in this book which is surely a guiding light for the aspiring kids.

You would equally be amazed that this book is really bulky and runs almost 400 pages but don't get bogged down by the volume because almost 1/4th of it is dedicated to the letters and mails which Lubhna has received from many distinguished personalities which is again a treasure trove since we get to read what those visionary people have said about the youth and their future.

It is a sad fact that parents(not majorly) still try to impart their dream on their kids by making them read something which is not interesting or appealing to them. The end result is a disaster wherein these otherwise talented kids end up achieving nothing. Lubhna has also highlighted the need of reform in the education system in our country which sadly gives importance to marks and not to other aspects in general like practical knowledge which makes a major difference when implemented in full scale. 

The book is divided into 10 parts and each and every part is a classic of its own.

Finally, I must admit that I saw some similarities of mine in Lubhna since I shared the same mindset and I to had the habit of writing to visionaries and was lucky enough to have received a reply from the then President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and former CEO of Miscosoft Mr Steve Ballmer which I still preserve it as a treasure.

Launch Event and Book Review - Final Illumination

It was a pleasant evening on 9th Feb 2018 when I was invited for the book launch of "Final Illumination" by Farrah Begum. The event took place in Writer's Cafe in Royapuram from 6-7:30PM. The venue was a full house by the time event had begun. Author had come with her family. Few of her friends had also turned up to grace the occasion. The highlight of the event was the presence of Chief Guest who was none other than Neerja Malik. Author was very much particular in getting her as the Chief Guest and she had eventually succeeded. There were few reasons behind it. The main reason however is that the characters which portrayed similarities between Neerja Malik and Zubeida, who is the protagonist of this story who have fought bravely to come up in their lives.

Neerja Malik was at her usual best. She was pretty down to earth and was at her wit's end pulling other's legs, though not intentionally. She had broken the ice with her wits and made the event lively from the beginning till the end. She had also talked about how she had overcome cancer not once but twice briefly and said that people like her should be called "Cancer Conquerors" instead of Cancer Survivors. Despite not doing well for the past 4 days prior to the event, she made it a point to attend it since she was very much convinced with the story and the best part was that the entire story was narrated to her by the author herself.

Quoting that, she had suggested that it would be a good idea to come out with a "Audio Book" as well as it would be even more appropriate and appealing since the author had used the right modulations in the voice while narrating the story. She was also kind enough to pose with us for a selfie once the event got over.

This is a Novella and not like the usual lengthy stories. The beauty of the story is that it revolves around few characters with the main characters being Zubeida and Jude. The story talks about how a girl who was a witness of couple of major incidents in her life fights her depression and comes up. The story has a very good way of narration which brings forth in front of us as to what a girl feels when she was battling depression.

Usually there is a saying that "Best is to be preserved for the last". The story stands as a perfect testimony to that since the last 2 pages of this novella will make you cry, even if you are iron-willed/strong-hearted.

Considering this is the debut book by the author and that the story was written while she was pregnant with her second girl baby, the story needs all our support and appreciation since it is easy to say or think but when it comes to executing it, it is difficult most of the times.....

Feel Fresh with Amazon Original

Most of us have watched television during our childhood. Fortunately or unfortunately, we have been introduced to the "Mega Serials" which has kept us tied for years even though those defied logic. 

Even in case of a short serial, we always hoped to get to know the climax sooner or later though we were at mercy of the director. The eagerness to know the end result of any soap is attributed to the below mentioned factors:

1. We may not be available all the time at home.

2. Recurring ads in between the serial plays a spoilsport.

3. Seeing the same face over and over again and when the actor is not performing well, there are all the more reasons to hate it.

To get rid of the above-mentioned woes, we either stop watching them or divert our attention towards movies. Those were the things of the past. There will always be a period of renaissance. That has come to the Indian televison in the form of Amazon Original.

As we are witnessing the shift in the paradigm, the production houses have to really buck up to stay put in the market. Let us leave that aside, as our focus, being a viewer should be mainly on the content.

Now, let me take you on my journey on Original Series.

While I was browsing the content on the dedicated Prime Video section, I came across Breathe and without giving a second thought I started streaming it. The main reason was the cast and crew. Yes. The Amazon Original features Actor Madhavan. What more would you need?

It begins with a girl committing suicide. Now the inevitable question arises.
Why would she do that?

I felt the trivia that was shown in the Original was a novel attempt and it was appealing since made me understand the nuances that went in making of that particular shot/episode. I would say that this concept is totally new in the Indian market though it may be a common one in the western markets.

It also lists out the entire cast in a particular shot/episode along with their screen/real names which makes our life easier as it is easy to recollect those even when the names had skipped out of our mind, though I bet it would never happen since the characters were very limited and intense.

Like I said, I was thrilled to see Madhavan in a Original Series. The introduction scene did make me get some goosebumps. 

Madhavan is a single dad living with a boy who was diagnosed with a lung ailment. He along with his mother makes an attempt to make the life of this ailing kid easy by being really caring and supportive which comes quite naturally for an actor like him.

While this was one of the scenario, the other one focuses on murders.

Who was doing this murder and for what reason?

The Original Series touched upon some "need of the hour" reforms like "Organ Donation" where Madhavan's son who is registered with the list of organ seekers, had limited number of days to live. Being a dad, Madhavan could not do much since everything was done according to the procedures. The process had lot of bottlenecks which has been captured really well. As a viewer, I could relate to the mental agony that Mascarenhas(Madhavan) has to go through.

The Amazon Original emphasises strongly on this message "Make Organ Donation Compulsory"

On the other hand, Senior Inspector Kabir starts investigating the murder. He himself has had troubled marriage since he lost his daughter due to his carelessness. This was also a learning point for many who would be watching or had watched this episode.

During the investigation, Inspector Kabir gets some crucial clues.

Was he able to find the culprit?

You will have to watch the Amazon Original to find out the answer. Though I was not sure as to how the Original would be since I had not watched one earlier, I could not resist myself but to watch all the episodes in one go.

Does this not stand as a testimony towards the standard, quality and the success in evoking the interest in a viewer like me?

What I liked the most in this Original?

1. A new approach.

2. Great set of cast.

3. The plot.

4. Information/Trivia about the actors and the scene.

5. Message that was conveyed.

6. Performance by each actor.

7. Realistic events and not a fabricated one.
8. Availability in various languages - English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu along with subtitles.

Like I said earlier, this is a refreshing experience for me as I got to see a new plot altogether at my convenience either sitting at home or even while I was travelling. With no ads, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

What I might have done had I been in the situation of Mr. Mascarenhas?

Claiming a life is not in our hands and it is certainly a crime. While the Original Series portrays the circumstances that has made the person to commit the crime since he was left with no other option, II would have avoided doing that.

Firstly, I would have sought the help of a counsellor who would have helped me in getting rid of the negativity of thoughts. If I was not still convinced or felt peaceful, I would have escalated it to the State/Central authorities and also would have sought the help of the Press, who I am sure would have helped me.

If nothing had worked out in my favour, I would have surrendered myself to The Almighty because they say "Miracles do happen at times & I believe in it...."

Book Review - Polygon Of Asymmetry

I have been reviewing Dr Vyankatesh Katkar's book for a while now. The first two books I reviewed differed from one another which you would have read yourselves by now. This book "Polygon Of Asymmetry" is a different book altogether.

In this novel, author has talked in great detail about the life of an orphaned girl as to how much difficulties and humiliation she has to suffer in order to come up in her life. The words that were used and the way events were narrated would make you feel pity and even cry for the protagonist Uma. Uma did not know as to who her father was. All she knew was her mother who passes away due to physical ailments when she was still a young girl leaving the world to take exercise its freedom by clipping her own freedom.

The character portrays the real state of affairs which is happening even in the present day since it is the sex which plays a major role in the exploitation which has become the talk of the town even in the Hollywood after the #MeToo campaign went viral. 

Uma gets rescued by a kind soul from a brothel house even before she is being pushed into it and then she faces another humiliation when she thought that she found a solace in a care home. What she does over there was unthinkable but it is very nicely narrated by the author which shows the sheer grit the protagonist had inside her. She then finds a real kind gentleman. Though she falls in love with him, he thinks otherwise as she resembled his first wife.

Was she his daughter?

What happens later?

All these are written categorically making you to keep guessing till the end. I must conclude saying that this is a brilliant piece of work by the author.

Part 1 deals with Holistic Living, Heart, Hypertension, Diabetes, Exercise, Health Promoting Diet, Understanding the food, Planning the diet and weight management

Part 2 deals with Stress elimination, Anger elimination, Hatred and Jealousy, Worries and Recipes for Success

Part 3 deals with Stress Management Strategy, Stress Management through Yoga,Hypnosis for all round development and Stress Management and Life Style Factors

What is unique about this book?

Even though the book talks about many things in great detail, the best part is that it has all been done in small chunks. This makes the book a real interesting read. Tabular columns with relevant values were given by the author, when it comes to food which includes calories, where required.

You may not do all of them in one go but there is no harm in trying and when you keep doing it, it becomes a routine and hence will lead you over to a healthy lifestyle. Having said that, I would suggest not to complete reading the book in one go as you may not end up grasping all the important contents but read it leisurely covering 1 chapter a day.

The book is much more interesting than a story or a novel since this is beneficial to us in real time. I would say this is more like a self help book which, if mastered, would not require you to consult a physician as you may not fall sick regularly.

Make Your Boring Snacks into a lip-smacking One with Milk

Crispy Nacho Fries: It will take only 10 minutes. For this you will need 800g of fried sliced potatoes, spray oil, salt and black pepper, 80g of condensed fat cheddar, 1 tsp of cornstarch, 1/2 cup of skimmed milk (Niryas.com milk is best for it), pinch of onion powder and garlic powder, 1/4 tsp of chilli powder, chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, 1 chopped jalapeno, 2 sliced spring onions, 6 tbs of fat free yogurt, juice of a fresh lemon and salt. First preheat oven to 220c/430f. Now add the fries to a bowl and flavour it with salt and black pepper, spray with spray oil and flip to coat. Now drench a large baking sheet with spray oil and add the fries to the dish. Let it bake for approx 40mins. Now blend the yogurt in a mixing bowl with a little lemon juice and a pinch of salt, set apart. Now mix the cornstarch with the water in a small bowl. Now add this in saucepan over a medium heat with the milk, while it starts to bubble and clot. Add cheese, garlic powder, onion powder and chilli powder and whip until it becomes a soft cheesy sauce. Once the fries are prepared, split between two dishes and drizzle with the nacho sauciness.

Twisted French Toast: For this you will need 6 sliced bread pieces, cut into small size, 4 eggs, 1/2 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/2 cup brown sugar, butter and 1/2 cup maple syrup. First, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon for coating. Now melt the butter and coat in a pan in average heat. Now whip the eggs, milk, ground cinnamon and nutmeg together in a bowl. Now dip the bread pieces into the egg mixture and coat. Cook the pieces in skillet for around 2-3 minutes until brown. Toss the warm pieces into brown sugar. Whisk syrup and butter together until it get fully melted and smooth, in a saucepan over medium heat. After that dish up warm with bites.

Spice Pound Pumpkin Cake: For the Pound Cake you will need 1½ cups unsalted butter, 2 ½ cups sugar, 5 large eggs, 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup milk and 1 Tbsp vanilla extract. For the Spice Coating of Pumpkin you will need ½ cup sugar, 1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice and 4 Tbsp unsalted butter. First grease the standard pan. Now preheat the oven to 350°F. Now mix the butter and sugar together until it becomes light and fluffy, with the mixer. Add the eggs one at a time, blending after each adding up. Now add the flour, salt, milk and vanilla; blend on little speed for 3-4 minutes. Now move the butter into a prepared pan and bake at 350°F for 75-80 minutes. Now let the cake cool in pan for 10 minutes. For the Pumpkin Spice Coating, first slice the cooled pound cake into 1 cube. Now add the sugar and pumpkin pie spice in a bowl until mix well. Now add 2 Tbsp of butter and place over medium heat using a large skillet. Once it gets melted, add half of pound cake cubes. Then cook until the cubes get browned on all sides. Then take away the toasted cubes from skillet and toss it in sugar-pumpkin spice mixture.

You can change the amounts of the ingredients based on your requirements.

The new book on the Bharat Series is a perfect information trove. It made me wonder whether I am reading real account of incidents though it is a fiction. I have read few reviews and I did not take it seriously until I myself read this book completely. The information given referring back to Ramayana and Guatama Buddha has been supported by valid references of close to 60 books which is mind boggling. I seriously wonder as to where would Mr Sanghi find all the time to read so many books to get the content. 

Getting a content isn't a big task but putting them across together to stitch a perfect story is where the story stands apart. I felt there were too many characters and references but if you delve yourself deep into the story, you would find a perfect connect. 

What according to me makes a story a real interesting one is to start it with a bang and retain it till the end which is the case in this novel as it begins with few leaders across the world losing their lives mysteriously despite being under huge round of security. While there were many assumptions to these incidents, a shadow group called Minerva has been behind these occurrences. Why were they doing this? What was their ultimate motto?

While this was happening in one end, there was another highly secretive group called IG4 which vowed to crack the mystery of the deaths but they themselves gets into deep trouble.

There was a super intelligent Indian Research Scholar who gets hired by a relatively new company which agreed to pay double that of what he was promised from SpaceX,Google etc., Why was he been paid so much?

Probably the first time ever in Ashwin Sanghi's book, the book had lot of pictorial references which has made this an interesting read. Buy the book today, if you haven't bought it yet.

Honestly speaking, I was not aware of few of the brands mentioned above but this book has made me realise as to what kind of hard work had gone in to make these brands successful. The book is a real interesting one since it talks about the life of real people which has captured the essence of their success in a subtle manner.

How the ideas were conceived, what kind of difficulties they had to face, how they stood out despite all the initial difficulties were captured perfectly. The book will serve as an inspiration for the aspiring entrepreneurs. I felt really glad when I saw he coverage of Eleve Media since I have worked with the Khanna brother and have met Prince in an event in Budh International Circuit.

The book is a worthy read. Go for it. You surely wouldn't be disappointed.

In this book, the author has clearly given steps right from the beginning till the end as to how one can go about applying for an internship abroad and what are the steps involved in it. This includes finding out th right opportunities at the right time and also how one can go about applying by drafting the proper mail which includes cover letter, cv and the content that needs to go in it. Author was also kind enough to include his own mail and cover letter which has fetched him internships in UK, Italy and Switzerland during his college days despite not having higher GPA like that of his classmates.

Not all will reveal the secrets. But by revealing some of them, author has proved that he is there to help you out which would come at probably the 1/10000th of the cost (by purchasing the book) which you might have incurred otherwise by paying a consultant.

I can say that this book has got details that covers almost all the aspects which according to me can be compared to a ready reckoner or to be more precise I should say that this is almost like spoon feeding to a baby who is not sure about anything. The book would be really useful to high school and college/university students who would want to stand apart by doing the internship(be it paid or unpaid) overseas in a reputed university or concern.

Give it a try. It is certainly worth the time and money. Like there is a saying "Success never comes to you. You go towards it"....
