VINOD TAWDE AND CROSSWORD BOOKSTORES CELEBRATES ‘MAHARASHTRA READING DAY’

Vinod Tawde at Crossword Bookstores, "Please give  books, not bouquets to welcome me."

15th October has always been a blessed day, what with it being the birth anniversary of the learned scientist and Former President, of India, late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The Maharashtra Government has now declared it as “Maharashtra Reading Day”.

Confirming the same, Vinod Tawde, Honourable Minister of Education, State of Maharashtra says, “We are delighted to announce 15th October as Maharashtra Reading Day. Here at Crossword bookstores I would like to request you to give me 'books' instead of 'bouquets' to welcome me. Maharashtra Government is celebrating Shri. APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday as 'reading day'. That's because his writing had 'vision.' He mentioned in so many instances that India is going to be a superpower. He  visualized this and wrote in his books. His writings have inspired not one school or class, but an entire generation."

Interestingly, 15th October, is also the founding day of  Crossword Bookstores. The year 2016 marks 24 years of Crossword Bookstores’ endeavor to spread knowledge and inculcate the habit of reading.

Kinjal Shah, CEO, Crossword Bookstores added, “It is commonly said about reading, especially when it is self-led, that it is one of the first areas where young people get that motivation to explore and discover. Since this day is a homage to Shri. APJ Abdul Kalam, I cannot help but thank God for the wonderful coincidence that Crossword Bookstores shares its birthday with such an exalted personality and it is also declared as Reading Day by Maharashtra Govt."

Crossword’s ‘#ILoveReading’ program recognizes that the reading habit has been on the decline; except for the examination related text-book and note reading. With kids being exposed to devices like cellphones at an early age, reading is becoming a challenging habit to maintain. And as they emulate their parents, who tend to be engaged in songs and videos on their cellphones; it leads to cellphone addiction at a tender age as early as two years.

“We must declare a ‘no gadget day’ as well”, Tawde added, while appreciating Crossword Bookstores for its ‘#ILoveReading’ initiative.
