Taiwan's Cutting-Edge Tech That Transforms the Way We Live

In the rapidly advancing era of technology, smart home devices have become a symbol of convenience and efficiency. Taiwanese companies have been at the forefront of this revolution. The country has long been recognized as  tech-first, with a strong commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of society. By embracing innovation and investing in research and development, Taiwanese companies have consistently delivered groundbreaking solutions. From smart homes to healthcare, Taiwan has been instrumental in improving people's lives globally.

To further encourage these companies, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, established the Taiwan Excellence Awards in 1993. This award recognises brands that are shaping industries worldwide. Every year, selected brands are subjected to a rigorous and stringent selection system that covers four major aspects of “R&D”, “Design”, “Quality” and “Marketing” to identify outstanding products that offer “Innovative Value” while satisfying the key criterion of being “made in Taiwan”. Products that win the recognition then serve as examples of the domestic industries and are promoted by the government in the international market in order to shape the creative image for Taiwanese businesses.

Two remarkable products that exemplify this commitment are Zyxel’s NWA50AX WiFi 6 and AIFA's i-Ctrl Pro smart remote. Clubbed together, these products bring the idea of a smart home to life.

Zyxel’s NWA50AX WiFi 6 is a Dual-Radio PoE Access Point that showcases Taiwan's expertise in revolutionizing wireless connectivity. This cutting-edge device combines the power of WiFi 6 technology with dual-radio capabilities, ensuring seamless, high-speed internet access throughout a smart home. Supporting both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies, this device offers the best benefits of WiFi 6. With its robust PoE (Power over Ethernet) feature, the access point eliminates the need for multiple power sources, simplifying installation and reducing clutter. Its ability to support numerous connected devices simultaneously makes it an ideal choice for home, offices, small hotels, coffee shops, or retail stores, where the demand for bandwidth-intensive applications continues to rise.

With uninterrupted connectivity, the time has come to operate traditional devices remotely too. And this is now possible thanks to AIFA's i-Ctrl Pro Smart Remote. This intelligent remote is designed to seamlessly integrate with various smart devices, allowing users to control multiple devices with a single interface. Intuitive design and advanced compatibility of the device empowers users to effortlessly manage their entertainment systems, lighting, temperature, and more. The A.I. smart scenario feature enables setting up a variety of smart scenarios. This allows the device to operate on behalf of a user thus creating a personalized and comfortable living environment.

In the realm of smart living, Taiwanese technological innovation shines brightly. The above mentioned products exemplify the country's commitment to improving living standards through technology. As Taiwan continues to lead the way in tech innovation, the world can look forward to more remarkable products and solutions that enhance our everyday lives.

Technology gives tools to people with diabetes for effective glucose monitoring

Technology gives tools to people with diabetes for effective glucose monitoring

People with diabetes need to manage their condition effectively so that they can lead healthy and happy lives. Being diagnosed with diabetes used to mean finger pricks to test blood for glucose levels. But Continuous Glucose Monitoring has changed all this, making the process of checking glucose levels accurate, informed with data based evaluation.

What is Continuous Glucose Monitoring

Continuous Glucose Monitoring helps a person with diabetes track their glucose levels in real-time. Freestyle libre from Abbott is CGMS or Continuous Glucose Monitoring system that has a handheld reader and a sensor that can be worn on your arm. The sensor lasts 14 days, is disposable and you can buy a new one to replace it.

The reader can scan the sensor to get your glucose readings without the need of a finger prick.

Glucose levels are measured continuously by the sensor through the interstitial fluid.

Not only is a CGM device pain-free as compared to BGM or Blood Glucose Monitoring but also reliable and accurate.

Tech meets convenience

The sensor can be worn while bathing, showering, swimming or exercising. The sensor should not be taken below 1 metre (3 feet) of water and should not be submerged in water for more than 30 minutes. The adhesive is designed to keep the sensor securely and comfortably in place for up to 14 days.

The reader can take the reading even through clothing which makes it discreet enough to be used in public settings.

Basically, you can get your glucose readings anytime, anywhere and as many times as you want, once you have applied the sensor.

Glucose data at your finger tips

A scan takes as little as 1 second and is painless. Here is the data that you get:

Current glucose reading.

Trend arrow that shows the direction your glucose levels are headed to, whether high or low.

Trend graph based on the last 8 hours readings.

A target range for your glucose over time.

Additionally, you get historic data visibility with availability of 90 days of glucose data. It also gives you the daily percentage of time spent in target range.

Do More with CGM

Daily Patterns

Graphs give you the variability of glucose levels over multiple hours and days

Time in Target

Time in Range or Time in Target graph shows how much percentage of time the sensor readings were above, below or within range.

Low Glucose Events

When glucose readings are lower that 70mg/dL for longer than 15 minutes, these are recorded as low glucose events.

Informed decisions with CGM

Using a CGM device like Freestyle libre empowers the person with diabetes. Accuracy and reliability make it a big hit. The data can be used to make informed decisions regarding diet, exercise and medication.

The pros of the device includes being compact and lightweight. It also has a built-in test strip port for blood glucose and blood ketone testing. With proven reliability and accuracy, CGM is revolutionary in providing care to people with diabetes and their caregivers.

Traveling Do’s & Dont’s in 2021

Why do we travel? How does it help us?

I am not sure about what your view point is when it comes to travel but I travel for the following reasons;

1. It helps me learn about the new place, the people of that place, their food, their culture and other things.

2. It keeps me updated with regards to diversified culture and customs that exists in this world.

3. It also helps us to make new friends and acquaintances.

4. It helps to relieve us from stress related to work and other aspects.

5. Travel rejuvenate one’s body, mind and soul.

The above mentioned are the most important aspects as to why I travel. Destination isn’t important but what is important is the takeaway you get it from that place. I also make it a habit to share the best things about the place once I am back from the travel. It helps like minded people and fellow travellers to plan their travel in the n near future.

Now let us see as to what are the Do’s and Dont’s one should follow before planning to travel.

Do’s:

1. Plan your travel well in advance.

2. Draw up an itinerary with regards to the place you have intended to travel so that you will not mess it up once you are there.

3. Make a note of the important contact details of the place you are visiting as and also keep your family members informed about your travel. This will come handy when there is an emergency.

4. Pack your things properly. Do not miss out of any. If it is related to trekking on high altitude, ensure you have your thermals, thinner tablets, Sun glasses, gloves, denims, trekking shoes and gear.

5. Do the research thoroughly before you are visiting a place or a new country so that you will not do something which is forbidden in that place and end up paying hefty fines or penalty.

6. Keep the required currency in required denominations and also keep your plastic cards handy.

7. Ensure that your travel is insured which includes baggage insurance, medical insurance as these would be critical especially when you are travelling abroad.

8. Do not post updated about your travel with enthusiasm especially when you stay in a remote area as this e hours give information to the culprits who may be having an eye on you back in your home town and they may strike it conveniently.

9. Stop the subscription of milk, newspaper and other essentials when you’re out as these would give information to any passerby when they see newspapers lying around your home unattended.

10. Inform your nearest police station so that they will keep an eye on your house during their regular patrolling.

11. Do reach the airport on time.

12. Do web check-in always.

13. Carry your mask, sanitisers, RT-PCR test results (not later than 48 hours) and your vaccination certificates.

14. Keep your id proofs ready and safe.

Dont’s:

Some of them have already found a place in Do’s and here are few more.

1. Do not engage in any activity with the strangers in the unknown location.

2. Do not accept any packs given to you in the airport by a stranger.

3. Do not carry explosives or any sharp items on your hand baggage.

4. Do not hand over your passport to anyone.

5. Do not try to take things for granted. Ensure that you follow the procedures of the destination you’re traveling to.

6. Do not accept food items or any drinks from a stranger even if he or she seems to be nice

7. If there is a trouble, do not try to sort things out yourself. Report to the travel agent or concerned authorities.

8. Do not travel without your vaccination certificates and RT-PCR test results.

9. If you’re travelling all by yourself, more care should be exercised. Check the refund policy before booking an accommodation.

10. Do not travel without getting necessary information about the place you’re planning to travel.

I have always considered my nation as the best place to live and work. Apart from that, I have always had these two countries where I would migrate, if given a chance.

1. Singapore and

2. Canada

These two are in my list for various reasons like the Work culture, Happiness Index, Standard of Living etc to name a few. When the right time comes, I would surely go to any of these place to settle and if it is the latter, I would surely purchase a home for myself through Ottawa homes for sale

PR - TISS-UNDP launch iCALL public helpline for COVID psycho-social counselling

PR - TISS-UNDP launch iCALL public helpline for COVID psycho-social counselling

14th December, New Delhi, India: As part of their COVID-19 socio-economic response, UNDP India and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) recently launched a technology-assisted psycho-social counselling service “iCALL” for vulnerable populations in 13 states of India. This service will provide accessible, affordable, and quality counselling services through telephonic, email and chat-based facility to individuals in distress; particularly to those who belong to the marginalized communities. It will also support their referral and linkages to different social protection schemes, jobs and livelihood.

An individual, experiencing psycho-social distress across 13 states covered by UNDP can avail of these services. Given the challenges being posed to the personal, social and professional lives, the distress could be related to difficult or negative emotions (sadness, anxiety, loneliness, boredom, anger, uncertainty, hopelessness or helplessness) and thoughts (thoughts about contracting Coronavirus, losing loved ones, worries about future). It may involve crisis situations including abuse, violence, suicide, and self-harm.

The helpline was launched by Mr. Shingo Miyamoto, Minister, Head of Economic Section (Economic & Development), Embassy of Japan in presence of Ms. Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India and Prof. Surinder Jaswal, Professor & Deputy Director, TISS Mumbai.

“Medical workers who are day in and out fighting the crisis, are at the same time facing stigmatization from the society, even though they are the people who are trying to help. Therefore, we all need to make sure that as a society, we all have access to help when needed. Through this facility, we can help people who are in vulnerable situations including our frontline workers, elderly, women, and other marginalized groups access information related to mental health and psychosocial support”, said Mr. Shingo Miyamoto.

“Emotional impact of COVID-19 doesn’t exist in isolation but is nested in everyday life. COVID-19 has given an opportunity to move mental health care to psychosocial support by adopting the human rights framework while addressing the biggest need of inequities of basic needs and appropriate information. This service will be a great milestone in addressing these unmet needs,” Said Prof Surinder Jaswal, TISS.

To observe the occasion of the International Human Rights Day 2020, the helpline launch was followed by a panel discussion on addressing the psycho-social and economic needs of vulnerable populations to help them recover better from the pandemic.

“The iCALL helpline can identify the caller’s location or state and can guide them towards appropriate help as well as link them to social protection schemes. This will not just focus on mental health support but also integrate livelihood issues which is typical of UNDP’s approach of picking up emerging issues as part of its work,” remarked Shoko Noda, Resident Representative, UNDP India

Number of the helpline: 9152987825

Timing: Monday-Saturday 10m to 6:00 pm

Languages Available: English, Hindi
