Shibu Nair has written few books in the past. I have had the privilege to read them all and review it on my blog. When I got this book, I couldn’t contain my excitement since I knew I could expect something different for sure. 

The book is divided into 7 chapters with 138 pages, This talks about Health, Peace, Wellness, Travel - all in our language that is in layman’s terms. 

This implies anyone who reads could relate it to themselves because this is a common scenario in most of our lives. For instance many of us would have eaten at will and wish when we were at home not considering about calories or anything for that matter. We also made it a point to have dinner together and before 7pm, most of the times. This brought our sense of togetherness and we use to feel light. 

How a lab assistant replied “My blessings outweigh my sorrows” sends a string message. A simple gesture which leads to uplifting environment filled with smiling faces. We have the power to uplift those around us simply by acknowledging their efforts. 

By choosing to forgive, especially within family relationships where disagreements may arise, we foster empathy and understanding. These are power words. The importance of engaging, communicating openly and spending quality time together is emphasised in the book which again is a universal truth which we take it for granted.

I’m sure when you read this book, you will relate it to your life and that of others and can overcome obstacles which otherwise would have been an hindrance.

When I understood Author Viswanatha Reddy Thalakola, I did not think twice to grab the book. I have read few of his books in the part & liked his style & approach. The book deals in detail yet in a simple language coupled with short stories for each of the header.

Book Review - A Manual For Navigating Life

A brilliant book which covers most of the aspects in life. Though these aren’t common for all, there are few which connects us and few are experienced uniquely by the others. 

The flow of the book is natural and compelling though author clearly mentioned in the beginning that one could start reading the book from anywhere and complete it.

Another aspect I liked in this book is the use if simple language and effective classification of titles under different sub heads under the main topics.

What adds more to this book is the inclusion of small stories in each chapter which makes it even more interesting. 

I would surely recommend this book since I firmly believe this would help you in some way or the other.

New Delhi, June 24: Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari today launched Maratha War of Independence, a new book authored by researcher and writer Abhas Verma, at a special ceremony held in New Delhi. The book explores a critical yet underrepresented chapter of Indian history—focusing on the Marathas’ resistance against the Mughal Empire following the execution of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

The book reconstructs this forgotten period through the lens of military resilience, administrative continuity, and cultural assertion—marking it as the first organised war of independence in India.

Speaking at the event, Shri Nitin Gadkari said “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a visionary who laid the foundation of Hindavi Swarajya—a model of governance rooted in justice, equality, and cultural pride. He was secular in the truest sense, treating all religions with respect and never committing injustice against anyone. Unfortunately, British historians, through selective documentation and diary-writing, distorted our history. Today, the real challenge is not a clash of ideas, but the absence of them. It is our responsibility to present the true, fact-based history to the new generation to build a strong and self-aware India.”

The event featured prominent guests including author and historian Shri Uday Mahurkar, Editor of Organiser weekly Shri Prafulla Ketkar, Garuda Prakashan founder Shri Sankrant Sanu, and author Abhas Verma. Renowned scholar Padma Shri Prof. Bharat Gupt also graced the event with his presence.

Shri Uday Mahurkar said: “The reason why this war qualifies to be regarded as Bharat’s first war of independence is the fact that it started the process of the final disintegration of the Mughal empire with Aurangzeb’s death in 1707 & laid the foundation of Maratha empire in which Marathas controlled the Mughal throne in Delhi for almost 50 years. 

The book brings alive two of India’s greatest warriors in 1,000 years - Santaji Ghorpade & Dhanaji Jadhav - who pulverised the Mughals with their skill & valour & terrorised Aurangzeb himself but whose names are not known to today’s India. 

Also,Author Abhas Varma has done an excellent job of presenting before the nation a bright but unknown chapter of Bharat’s history which lay buried in Maharashtra for nearly 3 centuries. “

Drawing from historical texts, Mughal court newsletters, and regional records, the book presents key events such as the battles of Dodderi (1696) and Wagingera (1706–07), the internal decline of the Mughal empire, and the cultural revival under Tara Bai’s leadership. It positions the Maratha movement not as a regional pushback, but as the first sustained and strategic Indian resistance against foreign domination—a precursor to later freedom movements.
