Delhi’s Mango Season Gets an Ayurvedic Twist with SOMA-The Ayurvedic Kitchen’s ‘Satvik AamRasotsav’
As mango season reaches its peak, ‘SOMA - The Ayurvedic Kitchen’, located within Maharishi Ayurveda Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, is celebrating India's most-loved fruit through a unique Ayurvedic lens with its month-long SatvikAam Rasotsav, running until June 30.
Unlike conventional mango festivals that focus on indulgence, Satvik Aam Rasotsav has been curated around the Ayurvedic principle of seasonal eating, encouraging diners to consume ingredients that naturally align with the body's needs during the summer months. The menu highlights fresh mangoes paired with cooling and nourishing ingredients such as coconut milk, yogurt, avocado, basil, cardamom, seasonal herbs, olives and fresh vegetables, creating dishes that are both flavourful and mindful.
Some of the signature offerings include Mango Coconut Soup prepared with fresh mangoes and coconut milk, Mango Avocado Wellness Salad featuring seasonal greens and citrus dressing, Smoked Mango Paneer Shashlik, Mango Herb Dumplings, Mango Basil Bruschetta on toastedmillet bread, Mango Thai Curry Rice Bowl, handcrafted Mango Olive Ravioli, and Mango Rice Phirni finished with saffron and cardamom.
What sets ‘SOMA - The Ayurvedic Kitchen’ apart is its philosophy of bringing Ayurvedic wisdom to contemporary dining. Situated within Maharishi Ayurveda Hospital, ‘SOMA - The Ayurvedic Kitchen’ is among India's pioneering Ayurvedic dining concepts where food is viewed not merely as nourishment but as an integral part of preventive healthcare and holistic wellbeing. The kitchen reimagines global and familiar comfort foods using Ayurvedic principles, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, mindful cooking practices, seasonal produce, and recipes designed to support balance and digestion. Dishes are prepared without refined ingredients, while many menu offerings incorporate millets, fresh herbs, traditional spices and ingredients known for their therapeutic benefits.
The Kitchen’s culinary philosophy is inspired by Ayurveda's age-old belief that food should be consumed in harmonywith nature and the changing seasons. Seasonal menus are developed under the guidance of Ayurvedic experts and culinary professionals, ensuring that every ingredient serves both a gastronomic and a wellness purpose. Previous seasonal menus have focused on balancing the body's doshas through thoughtfully selected ingredients and seasonal recipes.
With Satvik Aam Rasotsav, ‘SOMA - The Ayurvedic Kitchen’ offers a refreshing alternative to the city's usual mango specials, one that celebrates the king of fruits while staying rooted in the principles of conscious, seasonal and holistic eating.
