Book Review - The Panchatheertha Part 1

Title - The Panchatheertha Part I Author - Rajiv Mittal Genre - Humour/Satire Publisher - Amazon Kindle ASIN - B07KSBFTTS Though I have read Panchatantra when I was a kid, I hardly could remember the stories now as I had read them more than 30 years ago. Now you might be roughly knowing my age :-) Having said that, though I felt the actual story was more focused and written for the kids but the new version I felt is apt for all ages. What did I like about this book? The stories talks in detail about various life events by stressing on morals but in an ironic way. This is a lengthy write-up and if you need to grasp all the contents, you may have to spend at least 4-5 days. The collection of 24 stories(I guess I have got that right) has a hidden gem and revolves around characters portrayed by various animals. I was also pleasantly surprised with the usage of Tamil words(in English of course)in few words. Though they were bad words, I am not complaining it here sinc...

Book Review - Parting of the Strangers and Other Stories

Title - Parting of the Strangers and Other Stories Author – Sattam Dasgupta Genre - Fiction Publisher – Partridge Publishing India Parting of the Strangers and Other Stories by Sattam Dasgupta is a collection of sixteen well-written short stories. The author attempts to look inside the psyche of human relationships and possibly what inside angels and demons affect them. He tries to bring out the various propositions and consequences that surface up when the slightest change in heart and mind takes place. Invariably, you will find the stories quite real as the author has used first-person narration technique to place the stories with perfect backdrop. This is my first deliberate foray into reading a collection of short stories based and build majorly around human relationship psyche, and for me it comes as a compelling read. I just know one thing that after seeing the cover page and reading a couple of stories you will not be able to stop yourself until you finished ...

Book Review - Pimp In The Pulpit II

Title - Pimp In The Pulpit Author - Thomas Leslie McRae Genre - Non-Fiction Publisher - Eber & Wein Publishing ISBN - 978-1-60880-604-1 This book is the continuation of Part I where the incidents happening in the family has been vividly captured yet again. I liked this book better than the previous one because this book has featured the accomplishments of the author including the Certificates and coverage on various news daily and journals. Among all the chapters mentioned in this book, I especially liked the "Disneyland" chapter as the author has written it bringing out the hidden irony even during the feud.  I must say that if you love family stories, this is the one you should be looking out for... Book Review - Pimp In The Pulpit

Title - Pimp In The Pulpit Author - Thomas Leslie McRae Genre - Non Fiction Publisher - Eber & Wein Publishing ISBN - 978-1-60880-560-0 This is a story happening in the Canadian-American family where the family members comes together to celebrate the birthday of the eldest person in the family Lillian McBride aka Lucifer. She was turning 95 and few of them, if not all wanted to celebrate it in a grand manner. The story revolves around her daughter, son, grandchildren and so on that you could feel that you are reading about something which has happened/happening in your family. There were way too many characters and since I am not good in family tree, I am not discussing about them in detail here. The story is a vivid representation of how people would react irrespective of sharing relationship with others especially when it comes to the involvement of monetary obligation. This story is a testimonial to the fact that the family feud is common in every part of the ...

Book Review - Fatal Impact

Title - Fatal Impact Author - Thomas McRae Genre - Poem/Poetry Publisher - iUniverse ISBN - 978-1-5320-6166-0 This book is a collection of poems by Thomas McRae. It has 44 poems in total. If you buy this book expecting a contemporary style of poems, you would be in for a surprise because it isn't the usual ones but has been penned in a different style(more like a short story). What did I like the most? The outer cover is real good and so as the pages as each of them has a pleasant background image. It was really thoughtful of the author to dedicate few of his poems to the people whom he consider/considered special/deserves a mention in his life. I found that there were two major themes in these poems: 1. Love 2. Hatred towards people(based on their skin colour) Both are very much relevant to the present world and while the former is much revered as it would bring positive impact on the lives of the people, the latter would reverse all the good vibes ...

Book Review - Street Trash

Title - Street Trash Author - Thomas Leslie McRae Genre - Non Fiction Publisher - Eber & Wein Publishing ISBN - 978-1-60880-211-1 This is a novella which revolves around John Hall and Edward. The story is all about how John, a 57 year old maintenance man who works for the Free B Clinic in Equal Opportunity Department spoils his career by being immoral. The story isn't suitable for kids but for others, it serves as a alarm as to what one shouldn't do. John  never gave importance to his helper Edward and he always thought he is in total control and never liked when his errors were being pointed out by the lower grade colleague - Edward. He also used all the opportunities that came his way including accepting gifts and sexual favours which saw him landing up in trouble, big time. The moral of the story is simple. Be truthful and honest to your work. You may think or go out of the box to help others but not to enrich/satisfy yourselves as you need to do com...
